Writing Your Family History - With Joyce Helweg

  • Pope Mountain Arts 675 Birch Street Fort St. James, BC Canada (map)

Every family has stories. Learn how to document your family stories in the simplest way possible. Through organization, you can create a living record of entertaining stories of family history in a short time. No special tools are required. No purchases are necessary. The best part - you will end up with a priceless gift!

In this entertaining workshop, Joyce will teach you how to:

  • Create a writing group or work alone,

  • Identify the who, where, when, and why of each story,

  • Inject the joy, laughter, trauma, and history of each storyteller,

  • Narrow down the element of time, identify the storyteller and how you learned of the story,

  • Record different interpretations of the same story without hurting other’s feelings. Everyone’s memories of the same event will be different.

Bring your notepad and pen and your (non-alcoholic) drink of choice. If you have a family recipe you would like to share, bring it along! Better yet, cook/bake it, bring it, and share with the group why it is important to your family. Joyce will share her recipes for Bald Salad, Plywood Birthday Cake, and Scrumped Apple Chutney.
