Getting Muddy at PMA!

The pottery studio at Pope Mountain Arts is up and running! This project has been in the works for many years, it has taken countless volunteer hours and numerous successful grant bids to get us to this point.

Our facility has 2 large capacity Skutt electric kilns, 6 Shimpo whisper throwing wheels, a rolling mill and all the tools and equipment needed for both handbuilding and wheel throwing projects.

Since opening we have hosted two clay Goddess handbuilding workshops with Erika Gardner and two intro to the pottery wheel class with Lynn and Harvey Goff. We are also just wrapping up our first 6-week long beginner wheel throwing class, with Jen Duncan. The feedback we have received from participants has been so positive, and many can’t wait to get back in the studio.

Keep checking our website and socials often, as we are in the planning stages for some exciting workshops hosted by out-of-town artists; including, Raku firing and a tea bowl workshop. We are also planning multiple shorter evening workshops and have some great ideas for fun projects leading up to the Christmas season!

If you see a class that interests you, don’t hesitate to register. People are so excited for our new studio our classes are selling out very quickly!

Our long-term goal is to start up a pottery guild. We need dedicated volunteers to make this happen, if this is something that interests you, please reach out to us. We have so many ideas and plans, now is the time to get involved! Come join in on the fun!
